About myself…
Jean-Jacques LUCAS
* 02 May 1955
born and resident in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg.
Trained as a teacher, he also became a photographer in the 80s.
For 20 years Jean-Jacques Lucas limited himself to silver-based black and white before later working in colour for certain subjects.
It wasn’t until 2007 that he changed his mind concerning digital photography and stopped working with films in favour of digital files, still with a strong penchant for monochrome pictures.
In his search for subjects, he almost exclusively chooses motifs with no human presence, whether landscapes or urban sites. The important thing is to let the viewer experience the subjective atmosphere, which he has experienced at the time of shooting. For him, photography breaks out of its narrow, purely documentary cage, and, by becoming a painter of light, he offers visitors to his exhibitions interpretations of reality, not necessarily reflecting the actual light conditions captured on film or sensor, but a subjective atmosphere, that he has retained in his head after pressing the shutter release. Most of those who look at the photos should stay unaware of the number of manipulations that were necessary to produce the photograph presented.
